The Color Project Sierra Abrams Books

A book of profound love, loss, and challenges. The Color Project tackles the issues that young adults face, when making the transition into adulthood in real and thoughtful ways. Written by a young person, with an old soul, TCP novel is a highly enjoyable, real world read that, I believe, readers will relate to whether 17 or 47.
Bernice and Levi want to be people who are passionate about all they put out into the world, and perhaps, become passionate for one another. However, it takes profound bravery to be the change you want to see in the world, and even more strength to fully commit to changing the world together. When real life problems begin to come crashing on in every side, can they navigate through the storms together? Or will fear and doubt in themselves destroy all they have so passionately built?
Young Readers: This book contains some scenes of: death, parental verbal abuse, and discussions about sex. Recommended for high school on up.

The Color Project Sierra Abrams Books Reviews

I just finished Sierra’s book! O.M.G!!! I didn’t know what to expect so at first I was surprised by the language, crude joking and physical relationship of the characters. But, seriously! She drew me in! So many things...her characters, her silly idiosyncrasies to her characters like things about Bee you should know #1,337 and the little comments she makes in parentheses and Bee’s fear and dilemma about Levi and her desire to stay pure and LEVI and...her name (Bernice) and Gretchen and their relationship and...I cried and laughed and wished...SO good!!! When is the sequel coming out?! This book is definitely for a mature audience.
The Color Project is absolutely everything that I look for in a contemporary novel. With a fantastic main character, a beautiful story, and one seriously swoony book boyfriend, this is one summer release you absolutely cannot miss.

I fully expected to enjoy this book going into it, but I absolutely fell in love with it. I can't wait for everyone to read about "The Color Project" itself, because it is such a beautiful, philanthropic concept and something I wish there was more of in this world of ours. It also happens to be run by the sweetest book boyfriend that I have ever had the pleasure of encountering. I just dare you to try read this book and not fall in love with Levi.

Bee is such a great main character. She is navigating her way through that challenging transition between teen to adulthood and trying to make all those major, life-altering decisions we're confronted with during that time. Watching her discover who she really is and what she really wants was so much fun. She is a very relatable character and so charming. Reading this book from her perspective was an absolute joy.

Abrams also includes such strong depictions of families in this story. From Bee's beautiful, loving family, who must face one of the most difficult things a family can be faced with, to Levi's mostly absent and usual abrasive dad and his fun and affectionate mom, Abrams really does a great job of exploring the idea of what it truly means to be part of a family and all the wonderful and difficult emotions that come along with it.

This book made me laugh out loud, it made me cry, it made my sigh, and it made me smile. It packs all the feels, folks. And I just have to say that I 100% support Abrams' use of glitter in this story. Glitter certainly contributes to a happier world in my opinion.

Bee just happens to be a book pusher, and so am I! So do yourself a favor, you guys, and READ. THIS. BOOK!
I've come to the conclusion that The Color Project is the best book I have ever had the privilege of reading in my entire 17 years of existence. Act one of The Color Project made me so happy, bonded me with the lovable and flawed characters, and fully enraptured me with its beauty. I connected with Bee on multiple levels, and this book honestly helped me through a time when I didn't want to keep on living.

I will add that because I know Sierra personally, and I am connected to this book so thoroughly, I am totally biased. I will admit.
But, I really hope this review would spur anyone to read this book. It has made a permanent impact on me, and I will share that with anyone who will listen.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD So if you want my opinions, read on.

I fell in love with Levi as Bee did, and equally with every one of those characters. I love Bee's real and quirky-but-relatable persona, Levi's everlasting compassion, Astrid and Millie's undeniable little-sister endearment, Tom's annoying but lovable big-brotherness, Elle's spunk and brightness (and the adorable secret omg). The wedding. The beach party. The friendships. The lightness, but also the depth of undertone. The Color Project. The struggles that everyone faced became more to me than just words on a page.
I connected so much with Levi's frustration and anger and hurt towards his dad. I actually understood and even sypmathized with Bee when she pushed everyone, even the best people in the world, away from her when she was distraught, Because I've done that too. I cried SO HARD about Papa's (I'm not even going to call him Mr. Wescott or Matt, he became too real for formalities.) cancer. It was all so real to me, and felt like I was reliving my experiences, but through someone else's eyes. I felt like it was actually my loved one dying. I understood everyone's anguish over his death. It was so unfair, it was so moving, and I grieved with them.
I loved Gretchen and her unconditional support. I let her comfort me as she comforted Bee. I cried with Mama and Millie and Astrid and Tom and Bee, because they made it real. It brought up some brutal memories, but as the characters healed and moved on, I was able to, too.
And when Bee finally came to her senses, healed just enough, forgave herself and let Levi back in, I swear my heart was going to burst. All of the emotions of the last act paired with a beautiful resolution just completed it all for me. PLEASE read this book. It may be a little sappy at times, but it is just so, so good.
